She Dipped Her Crab In Butter As I Confessed My Affair. Then She Said, ‘I Know.’

I never imagined I’d be confessing my greatest betrayal over a basket of Cheddar Bay Biscuits.

But there I was, on our 30th wedding anniversary, sitting across from Margaret at the Red Lobster in Springfield, Illinois.

The evening had started so normally. I picked her up at our house on Maple Street, and she came out wearing that soft blue dress I always loved, the one with the little white flowers.

Her silver hair was pinned up, and she smelled like the rose perfume she’d worn since our first date back in 1986.

It broke my heart all over again.
