The father replied calmly:
“We’re looking for a birthday gift for my daughter.”
The little girl moved closer to the display case, fascinated by the necklaces.
The saleswoman then lowered her eyes and observed their appearance:
the sweatshirt, the jeans, the shoes.
Her smile subtly changed.

“We don’t have anything in your price range.”
