My Mother-In-Law Screamed “My Son Bought This For Me!” So I Took Out The Garbage

“Get out right now, or I’m calling the police! My son bought this apartment for me!”

Those were the very first words that greeted me when I walked through my own front door, dragging two suitcases behind me after the longest six weeks of my life.

My mother-in-law, Lorraine Whitmore, stood in the middle of my living room like she’d been crowned queen of it. She wore a satin robe. Her hair was twisted up in hot rollers. And in her hand, clutched like a trophy, was my late grandmother’s favorite coffee mug.

I froze in the doorway.

The apartment barely looked like mine anymore.
