Ethan crawled across the floor to her, the letter clutched against his chest.
“There’s a name,” he said hoarsely. “At the very bottom. She wrote a name.”
He turned the page so Clara could see the last shaky lines of Eleanor’s handwriting.
“Her name is on the adoption record as Grace. She is two years old now. The family lives in Asheville. I am sorry, Ethan. I am so sorry. Bring her home.”

Clara pressed her hand to her mouth.
