“She’s being dramatic.”

I stared at Wendy for several seconds without answering. Then I walked calmly to the front door and turned the deadbolt.

Wendy laughed.

“What is this?”

“Nothing. Enjoy that wine, Wendy. By tomorrow, you may have nothing left to celebrate.”

Her smile disappeared for barely a second before returning. She assumed I was bluffing because, during our six years of marriage, she had mistaken my dislike of confrontation for weakness.
